Meet our new intern Marcus

The Hölscher Jensen team is growing, and we are very pleased to welcome our software developer intern, Marcus. We will return to the internship shortly – but first, let’s get to know him a little better 😊

Marcus is 35 years old and holds a bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies from the University of Copenhagen, where he gained a solid understanding of how people learn in different contexts. His choice of study was inspired by growing up in a family with many educators, combined with a long-standing interest in learning and understanding the challenges within the education system.

Although Marcus has not worked directly within educational science, he has carried these insights with him throughout his professional life, driven by a consistent desire to work with people. He has broad professional experience, including a managerial position in event management at a climbing gym, as well as several years in the hospitality industry as a waiter, chef, and restaurant manager. Simultaneously, he trained as a body therapist and worked with clients for two years. In addition, he volunteered at a drop-in center for former substance users, where he offered body therapy sessions. The sessions quickly became so popular that appointments often were in high demand. Marcus has also been a part of the choir ReChoired, which has performed with Bryan Rice for Knæk Cancer and at Østre Gasværk Theatre after winning a choir competition.

However, the high pace and irregular working hours in the hospitality industry – along with the significant personal energy Marcus invested in his treatments – were not sustainable in the long term. Marcus therefore sought a professional life with better balance and flexibility. Combined with his interest in the natural science and a desire to immerse himself in more concrete challenges, this led him to pursue a degree in Software Engineering at DTU.

Marcus was encouraged to apply for an internship with Hölscher Jensen by his former teacher at the French school, our drillier Yves, who saw a strong match. After an initial concern that our drilling work involved fracking, he quickly became comfortable with our focus on groundwater remediation and our shared values. During his internship, Marcus will be responsible for developing an app for our MainOps platform, with a particular focus on user experience. The goal is to provide our groundwater technicians with an optimized tool for reporting and documenting their work. Marcus is looking forward to translating his knowledge into substantive work that will be used in real-world settings, and he is especially eager to engage in close dialogue with end users to create a value-adding and user-friendly product.

Privately, Marcus spends most of his time north of the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden, where he moved to last autumn from Copenhagen to be with his partner, who works as a forest planner. There, he enjoys the idyllic surroundings and the midnight sun in summer. When the weather allows, he goes hiking; otherwise, he spends his time reading, writing short stories and poetry, and taking singing lessons.

We are delighted to welcome Marcus and look forward to seeing how his broad range of skills and knowledge willl come into play in our everyday work.
